Pottery Open Studio – Thursday Afternoon Access (Winter Session)

Want a little more freedom in the studio? Open Studio Access Passes are suited to individuals who can work safely and independently in the studio. Participants purchase a session punch card that is redeemable for the duration of each programming season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall).  Open Studio participants should be able to monitor their own work, center their own clay, trim wheel-thrown pieces, construct hand-built work to a project-appropriate thickness, and effectively glaze their own pots. If you have taken a 6-week wheel and/or hand building course or equivalent, then our open studio option is perfect for you. If this requirement is a barrier, but have other experience with clay, we’d be happy to review it.

Please include a description of your ceramics experience and photos of your work with your application. Send all materials to assistant@homerwatson.on.ca

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
