17141 Oil Painting Techniques

This class will explore the basic foundations of oil painting. Specific concepts, visual language and techniques will be examined throughout.

17142 Drawing Fundamentals: Urban Adventures

Learn how to see and draw perspective. This class will include a short talk with examples to explain the basic theory behind seeing perspective and then an opportunity for participants to draw using that theory around Kitchener Waterloo.

17143 Painting 30 Minutes a Day

You will learn one or two acrylic painting methods in this class every week and will create multiple small paintings. Students will have the opportunity to constructively critique the finished artwork each class.

17145 Creative Clay: Pottery Open Studio

Participants can learn many textural techniques, hand building and touch on the basics of throwing! Explore clay! Laugh! Connect! No prior experience required!

17146 Palette Knife Techniques

Students will learn how to apply the paint thick and thin, using the knife to create textures. Combined with some simple brush work, you will learn to add dimension and expressiveness to your paintings. Great class for beginner and intermediate students wanting to learn new techniques.

An introduction to pottery/ceramics. We will explore the principles of hand building including: hard and soft slab, coil, pinch as well as decorative techniques like stamping, imprinting and relief. There will also be an introduction to the wheel. Explore the possibilities of clay.

17152 Pottery: Throwing on the Wheel

Register Online
This program focuses exclusively on creating on the wheel. Centering, pulling, shaping and trimming techniques, as well as altering and adding to wheel-thrown creations will be taught and practiced. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn throwing on the wheel, or experienced and wanting to advance, the small class size provides a great opportunity for you to learn at your own pace. This intensive program has limited spots available.

17154 Watercolour Landscapes

Learn to paint your favourite landscapes in watercolour. We will explore different techniques to bring life to your watercolour painting. Learn how to create texture and atmosphere and experiment with adding different mediums.

17155 Intermediate Ceramics

The next step in ceramics learning. This course will focus on further exploration of the wheel and fine tuning hand-building techniques. Participants will spend half of class time on the wheel and half the class time with independent hand-building. It is required to have some hand-building experience.

17157 Figurine Fabric Sculpture

You don’t need to be an artist or a creative person to join in this workshop! Experience how easy it is to create unique sculptures and objects with a simple tshirt or other natural materials using Paverpol. Elvan Suzer is a certified Paverpol instructor and she will help you to explore Paverpol, a unique textile hardener. The statues/sculptures you’ll build will be both for indoors and outdoors, as well as abstract objects, wall decorations, vases, bowls, animals, jewellery and masks.

Every night is a paint night at Homer Watson House & Gallery, so join artist Scott McNichol in the Studio to create a one of a kind painting. 17160 Black & White Photography

PROGRAM FULL
Step back in time to learn the traditional methods of developing photographs and will become more confident in taking pictures. Participants will work through several themes and exercises to end with a variety of printed finished photos. Students will finish with several original silver gelatin prints.

17161 Hand Sewn Up-cycled Bags

Register Online
Do you have an item of clothing or cloth that is meaningful or fun, but doesn’t work to be worn anymore? Learn how to turn it into a unique, one of a kind bag. Each project will be different depending on the clothing used, but basic components of pockets, closures and straps will be explored. We will hand sew, so no sewing machine experience is necessary. Simple stitching techniques will be taught.

This is an in-depth, lecture mini-series suitable for both beginners and intermediate level artists. The eyeopening presentations will be augmented with interactive activities and simple exercises for the participants. As well, there will be plenty of question and answer time. Participants will evaluate paintings (paintings for critique will be provided), and determine the reasons for each painting’s strengths and weaknesses.

REGISTRATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Registrations may be completed in person, by phone, mail or online. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by payment in full. Register early as class sizes are limited and courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. All cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course. A full refund will be issued for classes cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and course content may change without notice.
There will be no refunds issued when cancelling less than 10 days before the first class. Cancellations made before 10 days of the start date are subject to a 10% administration fee. Missed classes will not be refunded.

Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, the Gallery, its directors, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class. The student gives permission for Homer Watson House & Gallery to use photographs, video and audio of the student, taken during workshops and courses, for publicity purposes.
