1933 Introduction to Watercolour

Learn watercolour from the very beginning! Students practice a variety of techniques with a focus on simple landscapes and still lifes.

1935 Expressive Abstract Experimentation

Explore and experiment with charcoal and acrylics to spontaneously create large, and vibrant compositions. Students start with a series of exercises designed to build confidence and talent while creating finished works on canvas.

1937 Monochrome Landscapes

Register Online
Learn how to create a one-colour-landscape using composition and harmony. Monochrome is infamous for its greyscales, but students will have the option to create a landscape in any colour of their choosing. This program will enhance students ability to create depth in a painting.

1938 Artists Corner: Open Studio

This open studio program allows students to work in a comfortable, supportive and creative atmosphere while developing visual art pieces of interest. Bring your photography, painting, drawings to work amongst other artists. Professional advice and critique is provided upon request.

1939 Palette Knife Painting

Register Online
Learn new ways to apply acrylic paint to canvas with palette knives. Practice how to apply paint thick, thin and to create textures with your knives. Combined with some simple brushwork, students will learn to add dimension and expressiveness to your painting. Students paint both realistic and abstract. For beginners or intermediates wanting to learn new tips and tricks.

Discover the magic of clay. Students will create functional and decorative pieces, from platters, mugs and vases to sculptural wall reliefs. This class will be a great time to create unique works.

1941 Drawing Essentials

Register Online
This course will create a greater understanding and appreciation of how to draw the objects and ideas we see in the world. Students will gain stronger proportion skills including figure and portraits, understand perspective, and shading techniques in pencil work. A good foundational course before exploring painting and sculpture classes.

11942 Composing Abstract

Drawing on inspiration from still life, students learn the fundamentals of creating an abstract painting. Students delve into colour, line and symmetry while composing their abstracts.

1943 Sculpture Essentials

Register Online
Learn the essentials of rendering a figure and portrait in clay. Each participant creates at least two finished and fired figure sculptures. Students also explore carving fundamentals.

1944 Pottery on the Wheel

This course is a great introduction for beginner potters on the wheel. Students experiment and create basic wheel thrown forms, glaze works and learn what a pottery studio is all about.

1945 Florals in Watercolour

Designed for students with some watercolour experience. Students explore a variety of techniques and styles to paint expressive florals in watercolour, including wet on wet, glazing and negative space painting. Plein air painting if the weather permits.

1947 Wall Hanging Sculpture

Register Online
All you need is a shirt and a wood panel. You will learn how to use the fabric (dipped in Paverpol) to create your unique design. A variety of fabric and embellishments is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own embellishments/mementos (ie. buttons, small metal tokens, chains, old earrings/necklaces etc.) to decorate your wall sculpture.

1948 Flying Bird Sculpture

A flying bird sculpture will add color and texture to your garden or great decoration for indoors. It looks stunning between the plants in your garden/planter or just by itself on the patio to greet you! The sculpture will dry ROCK-HARD and it can stay outside in the Canadian weather.

REGISTRATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Register early as class sizes are limited and courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. All cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course.

Registrations are accepted in person, by mail, phone or online. Full payment must accompany your registration. Post dated cheques cannot be accepted. There will be no refunds when cancelling 10 days before the first class or the event. Cancellations prior to that period will be subject to a 10% administration fee. We do not make arrangements for refunds for missed classes, events or transfers. Official receipts are issued at the time of registration. Any request made for tracing past payments/receipts will be subject to a $25.00 administration fee.

The Gallery reserves the right to cancel any class, workshop or event which does not receive sufficient enrollment. Cancellations normally occur one week prior to the start date. A full refund will be issued for classes or events cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and content may change without notice. Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, Homer Watson House Foundation, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class.
