1801 Ready to Hang Paintings

Instructor Elvan Suzer will guide students through a lesson on painting with acrylics. This is not paint by number method and there is much to learn in this seriously FUN class. At the end of each session, students will finish a painting that is ready to take home (or give as a present). Elvan will provide support on a one-to-one basis. This is the class for you if you think you can’t draw a stick figure and have absolutely no experience at all.

1802 Drawing Fundamentals

This course will create a greater understanding and appreciation of how to draw the objects and ideas we see in the world. Students will gain stronger proportion skills including figure and portraits, understand perspective, and shading techniques in pencil work. A good foundational course before exploring painting and sculpture classes.

1803 Xylography: Woodcuts & Relief Printmaking

The program will focus on the Xilography technique, a most ancient relief printing process with wooden matrix. Used in China since the sixth century to print ornamental pattern and characters on cloths; in Europe during Medieval times, it was used to print sacred images and for texts. In this program, we will discover the nature of this technique, knowing its method and artistic expression.

1804 Traditional Acrylic Techniques

1805 Maestro Italiano

This program will connect students to Italian culture in particular, proposing art topics and creative techniques which are part of the Italian tradition. Students will learn how to create a proper and original Renaissance contest like Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo and learn the history of the Italian artistic process and will develop their own artistic capacities.

1810 Acrylic Landscapes with Wildlife

This program will focus on colour and explore monochromatic colour schemes and contrast, with a pop of colour. Ana will show students how to create a dynamic one colour painting by using patterns, shapes, lines and value to create depth and dimension.

1813 Carving Essentials in Stone, Plaster & Wood

This unique program allows students to learn and enjoy the ancient tradition of stone-carving as well techniques in carving. Students will work with soapstone, plaster snd wood while studying traditional and contemporary tools and techniques.

1815 Figure Drawing & Portraiture

Learn how to render a figure from life! This course will provide students with the ability to see and draw the figure and create energy and drama. Participants will learn to take on not only the concepts of figure and its proportions, but how to work through challenges of drapery. Portrait drawing will also be discussed.

1818 Roses are Red: Still Life in Oil

Painting in oils, students will use classical techniques to paint a rose from life, to get in the Valentine’s mood. No photography will be used to capture the essence of life, students will work entirely from real flowers, learning colour theory and drawing studies along the way. All skill levels welcome!

1819 Valentine’s His & Hers Stainless Steel Rings

Spend an afternoon together, creating functional pieces. Couples will learn to hand-forge stainless steel to create rings, adjustable in size and in the style of their choice. They also have the option of heat colouring metal to create colourful patinas.

This family fun adventure will allow participants to learn easy to do printing techniques that will have students set to make their own birthday, valentine’s day and Easter cards. Printmaking gets messy so be sure to bring paint shirts.

REGISTRATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Registrations may be completed in person, by phone, mail or online. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by payment in full. Register early as class sizes are limited and courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. All cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course. A full refund will be issued for classes cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and course content may change without notice.
There will be no refunds issued when cancelling less than 10 days before the first class. Cancellations made before 10 days of the start date are subject to a 10% administration fee. Missed classes will not be refunded.

Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, the Gallery, its directors, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class. The student gives permission for Homer Watson House & Gallery to use photographs, video and audio of the student, taken during workshops and courses, for publicity purposes.
