Please Note: 2019 brings exciting new changes to Homer Watson House & Gallery! In the new year, we will be using to a new processing system that will enhance program registration. We want our customers to know that this new system will improve efficiency, will be more user-friendly and will cost the charity less money in an effort to provide more children’s programming. 1900 Introduction to Watercolour

Learn watercolour from the very beginning! Students will learn a variety of techniques with a focus on simple landscapes and still lifes.

1901 Beginner Pottery

Students will learn the basics of working with clay during this 5-week program. Students will experiment with slab building, coil vessels, pinch pots and glazing.

1902 Figure Drawing & Painting

Students will focus the concepts of traditional figure drawing to understand proportion, perspective, and shading techniques. This course will create a greater understanding and appreciation of how to draw the objects and ideas we see in the world.

1903 Still Life Drawing

This course will teach students how to look at objects and see them like an artist with attention to shape, proportions, tone, colour, texture and composition. Students will be encouraged to draw what they see, not what they think they see.

1904 Winter Landscapes

Students will learn how to paint effects of snow and ice on trees and roofs and learn to create distance in landscapes affected by snow.

1905 Artists Corner: Open Studio

This open studio program allows each student to work in a comfortable, supportive and creative atmosphere while developing visual art pieces of interest. Bring your photography, painting, drawings to work amongst other artists. Professional advice and critique is provided upon request.

1906 Paper Sculpture and Art

This unique program explores techniques and tools of paper joining and pattern making while connecting to the many possibilities in contemporary art making. Students will create several paper artworks along personal themes they choose.

1907 Drop in: Play with Clay

Join Meg in the studio for an afternoon of pottery fun. This drop in styled program will allow students to create unique projects with guidance from an experienced potter.

1908 Calligraphy 101

This course will give a review of the history of writing from early cave drawings to our modern alphabet. Two calligraphy styles will be covered in details; foundation and early gothic, with special attention paid to illumination (adding decorative designs and flourishes).

1909 Beginner Patchwork Quilting

This class teaches the essentials of traditional patchwork quilting by hand. Using a simple running stitch and a few basic supplies, a variety of quilt blocks will be hand-pieced together to produce a beautiful lap/crib-sized quilt. All skill levels are welcome and no sewing machines required. Great course to get cozy this winter!

1911 Traditional Oils & Acrylics

This class will explore the basic foundations of oil and acrylic painting. Specific concepts, visual language and techniques will be examined throughout. Students will also learn about materials and the pros and cons of each media.

1912 Handbuilt Pottery and more!

Discover the magic of clay. Students will create functional and decorative arts. From platters, mugs and vases to sculptural wall reliefs. This class will be a great time to create unique works.

1913 Handmade Floral Tile Mosaics

Students will make their own porcelain flower tiles and mount them on them on a board or mesh to be installed at home. Learn the basics of mosaics to make decorative artwork.

1914 Palette Knife Painting

Learn new ways to apply acrylic paint to canvas with palette knives. Students will learn how to apply paint thick, thin and to create textures with your knives. Combined with some simple brush work students will learn to add dimension and expressiveness to your painting. Students will be painting both realistic and abstract. For beginners or intermediates wanting to learn new tips and tricks.

1915 Portraits in Watercolour

Learn how to create expressive accurate portraits in Watercolour. In early lessons, students will learn to improve portrait drawing and learn how to choose a good reference photo. Later lessons will break down watercolour techniques such as painting accurate flesh tones and building up value. This class is designed for students with some watercolour experience.

1916 Exploration in Drawing

This course will create a greater understanding and appreciation of how to draw the objects and ideas we see in the world. Students will gain stronger proportion skills including figure and portraits, understand perspective, and shading techniques in pencil work. A good foundational course before exploring painting and sculpture classes.

1917 Behind the Artworks

In many works of art there are secret details hidden in the figures or in the background such as a signature, symbol and/or object. These details become secret messages that tell us more about the artist and its works of art. In this art series we will discover these secrets, creating a circle or art.

1918 Cuff Bracelets

Create a beautiful cuff bracelet from copper or stainless steel in any size. Students will learn how to hand-forge the metal of their choice and have the option of heat colouring the metal with a blowtorch to create a unique and colourful patterns.

1919 Valentines Day: His & Hers Rings

Enjoy a fun day with your sweetheart while creating a copper or stainless steel cuff ring in the style of your choice (adjustable in size). Students also have the option of heat colouring your metal to create a colourful patina. Includes light refreshments.

This fun kids-focused program will give families insight on how to make a variety of critter artworks that are sure to fool even a trained eye. REGISTRATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Register early as class sizes are limited and courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. All cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course.

Registrations are accepted in person, by mail, phone or online. Full payment must accompany your registration. Post dated cheques cannot be accepted. There will be no refunds when cancelling 10 days before the first class or the event. Cancellations prior to that period will be subject to a 10% administration fee. We do not make arrangements for refunds for missed classes, events or transfers. Official receipts are issued at the time of registration. Any request made for tracing past payments/receipts will be subject to a $25.00 administration fee.

The Gallery reserves the right to cancel any class, workshop or event which does not receive sufficient enrollment. Cancellations normally occur one week prior to the start date. A full refund will be issued for classes or events cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and content may change without notice. Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, Homer Watson House Foundation, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class.
