17164 Drawing & Painting Fundamentals

Students will study oil and acrylic techniques, discussing both colours and textures of fall landscapes. This is a great opportunity to improve your painting skills!

17165 Young Canadian Artists

Students will study under practicing artist Scott McNichol, to examine traditional and contemporary approaches to painting. Focused art students can build their portfolio, while learning how to paint portraits, people and landscapes. Students in this program will have the opportunity to be a part of program 17167 Exploring the Gallery to exhibit their artwork on site.

Following fun, imaginative themes throughout the week, students will gain greater skill in areas of shading, color mixing, brush and pencil use, composition and much more. Students will explore nature around the Gallery to find inspiration.

17167 Exploring the Gallery

This program is designed for youth who are interested in visual art and wish to build their portfolio for high school, college or university. With the guidance and tutelage of a current professional artist, students will strengthen their artistic skills and learn the process to become an exhibiting artist. These students will have the opportunity to install, curate, and market their own show!

Students will create a story of their own and bring it to life using animation. Participants will explore creatures, characters and set building, as well as basic camera techniques to create a stop frame animation.

PROGRAM FULL
A time old tradition of creating clay decorations at the Gallery with a unique Halloween spin. Families will create festive pumpkins or spooky Jack-o’- lantern’s. Pieces will be fired and available for pick up before October 31st!

Register Online
Join artist Scott McNichol to learn traditional encaustics in a kid-friendly way! Families will be exposed to colour mixing and composition while making a fun piece for the family to enjoy. Students will work in an elementary form of encaustic which combines melted waxes and colours.

General Information

Visual Art Classes Ages 4-6
These camps are designed for kinder tots, pre-school and kindergarten aged children. Focus is on fun while integrating all art forms: Dramatic play, music and musical expression, early literature & visual art. Objective is to build on basic fine motor skills such as cutting, pasting, and coloring activities, color recognition, problem solving skills, and socialization development.

Visual Art Classes Aged 6-10
These fun art classes are designed for children in Grades K-4. Focus is on fun skill & concept development through the use of various media. Objective is to include the child’s experiences, abilities, interests, imagination and problem solving skills within each art activity. Children are also introduced to new and various art vocabulary.

Visual Art Classes Ages 10-14
These visual art classes are designed for children in Grades 5-9. Focus is on exploration, experimenting and the application of skills and concepts while further developing the idea of adding meaning to art. Objective is to include the child’s experience, ability, interest, imagination and problem solving skills within each art task. Children are also introduced to new and various art vocabulary.

Behaviour Management

Behaviour, actions, and language should contribute to a positive & safe environment at all times. The Gallery reserves the right to remove any child from a program permanently, without a refund. Please inform the gallery PRIOR to registering of any concerns that should be noted and shared with the instructor. Please note, all information collected is considered confidential, and protecting your child’s privacy is paramount.

A full refund will be issued for classes cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and course content may change without notice. There will be no refunds for classes when cancelling 10 days prior to the first day of the class. Cancellations prior to that period will be subject to a 10% administration fee. Sorry, there are no refunds for missed classes or drop-outs.

Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, the Gallery, its Directors, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class. The student gives permission for Homer Watson House & Gallery to use photographs, video and audio of the student, taken during workshops and courses, for publicity purposes.

Registration Procedure & Policy

Registrations can be completed over the phone at 519-748-4377 or on site. Registrations will NOT be processed unless accompanied by payment in full. Homer Watson House & Gallery accepts Visa, MasterCard, cash or cheque. Cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course. A full refund will be issued for classes cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and course content may change without notice.

No refunds are issued for cancellations made 10 days or less prior to the class start date. Cancellations prior to that period will be subject to a 10% administration fee.
