1823 Drawing Basics

This course is great for any budding artist looking for stronger drawing skills. This course will cover such areas as proportions, perspective, light and shadow, colour theory and painting techniques. Students are encouraged to pursue his/her favourite themes.

1824 Soap Stone & Carving: Sculpture Fundamentals

This unique program allows students to learn and enjoy the ancient tradition of stone-carving. Students will work with both plaster and soapstone; young sculptors will gain two finished works while studying traditional and contemporary tools and techniques.

1826 Painting Fundamentals

This week will have students working in acrylics, learning both traditional and contemporary techniques in painting. Students are encouraged to follow themes they love and will produce several paintings end.

1827 Portfolio Builder: Drawing & Painting

This week, for the focused art students looking to build his/her portfolio, will examine traditional approaches to painting using oil and acrylic paint. Understanding how to paint portraits, people and landscapes, will help those interested in their artistic ventures.

1831 Monoprints to Block Prints

This family fun adventure will allow participants to learn easy to do printing techniques that will have students set to make their own birthday, valentine’s day and Easter cards. Printmaking gets messy so be sure to bring paint shirts.

General Information

Visual Art Classes Ages 4-6
These camps are designed for kinder tots, pre-school and kindergarten aged children. Focus is on fun while integrating all art forms: Dramatic play, music and musical expression, early literature & visual art. Objective is to build on basic fine motor skills such as cutting, pasting, and coloring activities, color recognition, problem solving skills, and socialization development.

Visual Art Classes Aged 6-10
These fun art classes are designed for children in Grades K-4. Focus is on fun skill & concept development through the use of various media. Objective is to include the child’s experiences, abilities, interests, imagination and problem solving skills within each art activity. Children are also introduced to new and various art vocabulary.

Visual Art Classes Ages 10-14
These visual art classes are designed for children in Grades 5-9. Focus is on exploration, experimenting and the application of skills and concepts while further developing the idea of adding meaning to art. Objective is to include the child’s experience, ability, interest, imagination and problem solving skills within each art task. Children are also introduced to new and various art vocabulary.

Behaviour Management

Behaviour, actions, and language should contribute to a positive & safe environment at all times. The Gallery reserves the right to remove any child from a program permanently, without a refund. Please inform the gallery PRIOR to registering of any concerns that should be noted and shared with the instructor. Please note, all information collected is considered confidential, and protecting your child’s privacy is paramount.

 

Registration Procedure & Policy

Register early as class sizes are limited and courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. All cancellations normally occur one week before the first class of the course.

Registrations are accepted in person, by mail, phone or online. Full payment must accompany your registration. Post dated cheques cannot be accepted. There will be no refunds when cancelling 10 days before the first class or the event. Cancellations prior to that period will be subject to a 10% administration fee. We do not make arrangements for refunds for missed classes, events or transfers. Official receipts are issued at the time of registration. Any request made for tracing past payments/receipts will be subject to a $25.00 administration fee.

The Gallery reserves the right to cancel any class, workshop or event which does not receive sufficient enrollment. Cancellations normally occur one week prior to the start date. A full refund will be issued for classes or events cancelled by the Gallery. Instructors and content may change without notice. Registration and attendance are subject to the condition that the City of Kitchener, Homer Watson House Foundation, officers, and employees, are released from all responsibilities for injury, loss or damage, however caused, that may be sustained by any person attending a class.
