Lunchtime Lecture | August 2014

“En Plein Air” and Capturing the Outdoors

Thursday, August 14, 2014
12:00pm – 1:00pm

Homer Watson House & Gallery is proud to be hosting the August edition of our 2014 educational Lunchtime Lecture Series! Join us for an informative and entertaining lecture on Thursday, August 14 from 12-1 pm given by featured artist in the 24th Annual Watson Exhibition, Tom Samolczyk. In honour of his place within this annual exhibit, Tom will outline the thought process, meaning and inspiration behind his work in this Lunchtime Lecture. The event will also include a question and answer period with the local Visual Artist, as well as tasty appetizers donated by local food suppliers!

Tom Samolczyk, a retired medical practitioner, has been drawn to sketching and painting since his childhood. His interest in nature and keen observation skills has contribute to the evolution of his work in the outdoor painting style. In his lecture “En Plein Air” and Capturing the Outdoors, Tom will discuss the history of the French expression meaning “in the open air” and how it has informed his own work. His fascination with water and sky gained him recognition with Homer Watson House & Gallery as the recipient of the Curator’s Choice Award in 2012, lending it well to be paired with the Annual Watson Exhibition. As his work continues to evolve, it shifts towards capturing not only the organic outdoors but rather man-made landscapes as seen in his urban sketches. Tom will highlight his insights, challenges and future plans as he addresses his art work in this Lunchtime Lecture.

In addition to our educational and interesting lecture, we will also serve light refreshments and provide tours of Homer Watson’s former home. Please remember to bring a lunch!

Admission for this event is $10.00 per person. Complimentary admission is offered to those who hold a valid membership.
