Celebrating Homer Watson’s 165th Birthday!
Come join us in celebrating Homer Watson’s 165th birthday at Homer Watson House & Gallery. During this Lunchtime Lounge, Curatorial and Collections Assistant Nichole Martin will be sharing Homer Watson’s story long after he became Canada’s most famous artist. Homer Watson achieved international success at the age of 25 when his painting “The Pioneer Mill” was purchased for Queen Victoria by her son – in – law the Marquis of Lorne. This lecture will focus on the 1920s and Watson’s later works. Despite his waning popularity and increasing competition from new artists like the Group of Seven, he created some of his most experimental and emotionally charged paintings during this period. After the lecture, view these paintings in person in the Homer Watson studio.
Coffee, tea and cake will also be served.
