VIRTUAL EXHIBITION

Surface Tension

Featuring Eastwood Collegiate Institute IAP Students

January 14 through to March 31st, 2022

Watson, Cayley & Ferrie Galleries

Virtual reception:

Homer Watson House & Gallery presents Surface Tension an exhibition celebrating students from Eastwood Collegiate Institute’s Integrated Arts Program. This annual show provides a unique opportunity for art students to create and curate an exhibition at Homer Watson House & Gallery.

Working at the intersection of materiality and consciousness, the artists have created immersive and thoughtful works, challenging and exploring the boundaries of the surface—both physically and subjectively.

Indicative of the spirit of our current reality, Surface Tension brings together works that wrestle with the tensions of a global pandemic, widespread social unrest, natural disasters, and an uncertain future.

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
