EXHIBITION

Colour with a “U”

Featuring Studio Art Quilt Associates | Curated by Faith Hieblinger

EXTENDED until September 7, 2020!

Starting July 7, 2020, you can experience SAQA’s Colour with a “U” at Homer Watson House & Gallery.

Colour with a “U” is a juried exhibition of thirty-five art quilts by Canadian members of Studio Art Quilt Associates. In Canada, we spell colour with a “U”. We care about the “U”, it makes us unique. We care about the “you”, it brings us together. Thirty-five artists have reflected on the theme of diversity and inclusion to give “colourful” representations of our Canadian cultural identity. Each offers an individual perspective on how we as Canadians see ourselves in our social, historical, and physical landscape. Nothing can match experiencing the rich textures, colours, shapes, and messages in person.
Colour with a “U” catalogue is available in our gift shop. Please stop by and get your copy when you visit the exhibition. Only $20!

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
